EXAMS

As a RAD Registered School, Carisma is proud to be able to offer examinations and assessments through the Royal Academy of Dance.

Assessments take place once a year usually in August and provide a wonderful goal for dancers to work toward. Dancers are selected by teachers to enter either Examination or Class Award and enjoy the performance opportunity, external feedback and special occasion of the examination day.


Exam Requirements

Dancers wishing to sit for an RAD examination must attend two lessons per week in their level and once senior level will be highly encouraged to attend stretch and pointe. Class award students will also be encouraged to attend two lessons per week. All class award and examination students must attend the examination holiday workshop.

CLASS AWARD

R.A.D Syllabus Ages 5+

Following the class award syllabus and including a selection of exercises and one dance led by the teacher and assessed by an examiner. It is a great option for dancers who enjoy a less formal assessment with the support of their class teacher and fellow dancers. Dancers receive a medal and certificate. Open to students who attend one lesson but preferred two lessons per week.

GRADES

R.A.D Syllabus Ages 6+

Focussing on ballet and including elements of freer and progressive styles and character. Exam students will be selected by Carisma staff once a level has been reached. Dancers enter examinations without a teacher and perform their work in groups of up to 4 dancers to an examiner. Receiving a mark out of 100 and a medal and certificate. Open to students who attend two syllabus lessons of the examination level or more per week.

VOCATIONAL

R.A.D Syllabus Ages 11+

Building on the elements covered in the Grade syllabus, focusing on performance of ballet to an advanced standard. Suitable for ages 11 years and above. As per Graded exams dancers must attend two lessons per week minimum and also will be advised to add stretch and pointe class. The Vocational syllabus requires students to successfully complete the previous exam level before entering the next.

DISCOVERING REP

R.A.D Syllabus Ages 12+

Discovering Repertoire is a classical ballet performance programme consisting of 9 units across 3 levels. Using well known repertoire, meaning dancers will learn and dance repertoire they have seen on stage. Suitable for dancers aged 12 and above, catering for dancers new to the art as well as more advanced dancers. Dancers will learn two solos and class work for each level.
